The event was led and organized by Prof. Fumin ZHANG's team at HKUST, focusing on enhancing young people's sci-tech literacy and discovering research potential. Guest speakers included Wu Huajie, Zhang Jian, Lu Xiaofeng, and Tong Feng. The secondary school division featured 13 local secondary schools, while the university division included HKUST and CUHK.
Wu Huajie's address: Sci-tech innovation education is a key core direction of Hong Kong's education development, hoping to deepen sci-tech collaboration between primary/secondary schools and universities.
Zhang Jian's sharing: The business sector firmly supports Hong Kong's sci-tech innovation education and is willing to deepen industry-academia collaboration.
Student testimonials: Award-winning students from Pui Ying Secondary School learned to adjust plans and solve problems under pressure; award-winning students from Kiangsu-Chekiang College said university team guidance gave them a deeper understanding of robotics technology.
Funded by the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission and hosted by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the event closed on April 19 at HKUST's Tsang Shui Tim Art Hall. Unlike conventional competitions, the entire event was guided and organized by Prof. Fumin ZHANG's team at HKUST, with all robots used being independently developed by HKUST.
Prof. Fumin ZHANG: A total of 12 teams and about 100 students participated, far exceeding expectations. The key to transitioning from cutting-edge research to popular science education lies in thinking about problems from the students' perspective.
Prof. Tong Feng: Students actively asked questions and innovated boldly, demonstrating enormous sci-tech innovation potential.
Future vision: HKUST will continue to regularly host high-quality sci-tech popularization events, starting from Hong Kong and gradually expanding to countries such as Australia and the UK, building an internationally influential STEM competition brand.
